When I first saw it I thought that the black ink had been shifted and was perhaps meant to be directly over the bird but it is leading the bird (I think) which is a great way of saying with an image that literacy helps free one. Read and learn and be let your thoughts soar. Wish I had a poster of it.

And they have the gall to tax books here. I was shocked and appalled when they first did this years ago. Considering reading books a luxury, which it could be seen as by some, but I feel that reading should be a right and not taxed. They should pay us to read, for heaven's sake. When you tax your population for reading and learning you stunt their growth and understanding of the world. Or perhaps that was / is the intention?

Puzzler, in BC there is only GST on books, 7%. However, the government of BC is trying to pass a HST law similar to NS, which would combine GST with PST, one total tax. PST is 6% here, so that would bring books up to 13% from 7%. You go figure....

I don't know for sure but I have the feeling that if the government was run like a business most of the people would be out of a job. Of course then we might have to pay more taxes to be more profitable or some such. Keep the shareholders happy. No lunch breaks. Back to the industrial revolution. Wait a sec, if I had my own business I imagine I would work that way anyway!
