eBay sellers, if you want us to take you seriously, please stop taking pictures of your $1,750+ cat value stamps with your cell phone.

One particular seller (Boots4222) looks like he not only takes his picture with a cell phone set at 20dpi (maybe 25?) quality, I believe he also taking them underwater. At night. In stagnant swamp water.

As a bonus, one specific lot appears to be an ultra-rare R16b "part perf" with 1868 canx on pink paper, with a bonus perf hole at bottom left, but in the "imperf" area (no extra charge). Of course the quality of the pic is so terrible, no one can really tell what we are seeing. I would love to ask for better scans of his stamps, but he banned me after I pointed out he was selling bogus stamps. Sooooo, I can't bid or send a request for a better scan. My bad...

At least shipping for the $1,750 stamp is $1!!!!!!

NYStamps has their own issues, with their patented so-so cell pic of the front of the stamp, and even lower dpi pic of the back of the stamp. Can't imagine how much extra time that takes to take two different pics at different DPIs. I asked for better scans of one of their lots and they told me they were too busy as they were selling too many lots to include higher quality pics. Seriously.

Sellers, please fork over $80 for a flatbed scanner and take proper scans so we can see what you are offering up. And so other bidders can point out mis'IDs, since you banned me and I can't send you a message.

Thankyoueversomuch!

And get off my grass.

Higher dpi takes longer to load. When you are a volume seller the extra time adds up and likely does not significantly affect price.

Poor quality photos on less than perfect material can boost sales of same. However the screen shot of boots4222 shows feedback at over 10,000; thus the sellers is not new.

As is the case always, the best way to convey your message of dislike is to not bid. Of course then you must deal with FOMO.

Not to mention that color anomalies aside, I'd bet my next pension check that it is in no way an actual part perf. That cancel type is mid- to late-period, not early. Most likely a misperfed top margin single. Actual color would provide more clues, but not possible in this case.

The seller has several neutral feedback (not sure why they aren't negatives) regarding misdescribed items with a couple specific to similar trimmed perfs. I will bet that there are plenty of happy buyers that think their stuff is real and they got a "bargain" to boot. Same old story.

Did anyone look at his sold items sorted highest price to lowest. He is selling hi cat grilled issues and coils without a cert for thousands of $. Why should he change anything when there are plenty of naive, greedy buyers?

It does not take many. Just takes ignorance & money, and there are always people who have an abundance of both.

There are too many collectors that want to fill holes and when they see a chance to buy a rare stamp on the cheap, they bite. I see too many used blue papers (Scott 359 to 366) purchased by collectors who do not know their true rarity and that most were not sold over the PO counter. I have seen more than one "used 4¢" or "used 8¢" blue paper. These two stamps were never sold at a post office and their value precludes them being used on a letter. Yet there are collectors who buy these mis-identified items for $250 to $500, with the seller laughing all the way to the bank.
