I have a cover with the senders name, rank and serial number on the reverse.

C.E. Morin
AB
V-4331
Does anyone know what the prefic V was used for. There were 11 military districts in Canada, numbered from 1 to 13 (with 8 and 9 left out), and Regimental Numbers were prefixed with the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L or M. depending on where the service man was recruited
R&J were used for the RCAF
and W for women other ranks
.
I have seen a suggestion that V was used for female officers but officers were normally identified by name and rank. Also V does not agree with the apparent rank of A.B. in the return address.
I am assuming, without any proof, that the sender was Canadian
Any thoughts would be most welcome..
