Massive Upcoming Cinderella Auction Old Louis January 24-27 2023

I have a sore wrist after 4 days of clicking and scrolling, but managed to snag about 50 lots with my 200 or so bids. For the most part the stamps sold for what they "should" - $1-3 per stamp for common stuff (which was the great majority), $10 - $20 per stamp for the scarce to rare stuff. A number of things sold for way more than I expected. I was happy to buy numerous lots at $1-2 per stamp; you can get the same prices bidding on ebay, but then you have to pay $2-3 in shipping (or more), so I saved a lot on postage.

The same bidding identifiers showed up over and over, and I suspect it was mostly dealers stocking up for their online stores. One bidder identified as p***j was bidding his/her brains out and probably won hundreds of lots. I suspect it was Probaj stamps - Old Louis wasn't very imaginative with the identifiers - my username for them is robertbrew and my identifier was r***w. Probaj charges premium prices on their website, so they should make a good profit on all their purchases.

Thanks for the skinny Stampdoc. I ended up watching some of the bidding but never pulled the trigger because I am a complete neophyte when it comes to Cinderellas. Now I have some regrets because there was some material that was very interesting to me. Especially 1930's philatelic exhibition labels.

Have you ever seen a Cinderella auction of this scope before?

The most cinderellas I've seen at once in the last few years was an album of 1200 Swiss exposition stamps at Noble Spirit - which I was happy to get for $600. That's about the only way to buy these for under $1. Old Louis has had some other multi day cinderella auctions in the past - usually Russian material - some of them may have added up to about 1000 stamps.

So 40,000 over 4 days - I wouldn't be surprised if their claim that it was the largest sale in the last 100 years was true.
