floortrader - you might have one of the most complete collections of all time at the end. I wish I ended up at 1970 across the board. I collect to the album, so if the album has spaces....

One thing I realize in my journey is that you need multiple stamp collections to house everything. You need your main country collections one binder per country, a back up set of big blues to cover the rest that also serves as a duplicate dump, and a Cinderalla, certified stamps, huge sheets collection, plate blocks covers etc... for everything else not covered in binders.

Green Dragon --- We have to be careful to make any claim . First because I don't know what is out there . Second .. My collection ,I hope to keep building it for the next ten years . Third is the definition of the word '
"Largest " does it include the large institutions ,does it include dealers with inventory . Do you count the number of stamps or just all different . There is so many factors that need to be clear about before a claim is made .
The importance of cash value is what a lot of people think about first .How much is it worth .They judge on what is it worth .

floortrader - notice I wrote one of the. There is the Ra collection and Dr. Chen. I could have sworn I read that Sundman had a good one. Someone is buying these country albums at auction. Most large collectors are probably anonymous. Still, a great collection is a great collection. I for one am setting a manageable goal and once I achieve that goal, I will set new ones. And when I feel that I have collected what I wanted to, then they can put my accomplishment on my tombstone. :) "In life, do the incredible and save mediocrity for someone else"

"floortrader - you might have one of the most complete collections of all time at the end."

From what I've seen here, I have no doubt that it's a great collection and very complete within its limit of 1970. But any collection that largely ends in 1970 is just by definition unlikely to be one of the "most complete collections of all time." There have now been 186 years when stamps have been issued (1840-2025). 55 of those years, or almost 30%, have been since 1970.

This is in no way intended to criticize Floortrader's collection, but he is really not trying to be in the "most complete" category.

Snopes ---- Agree ,not thinking about being complete , that can't be possible without spending 5 million dollars . I think no one person has that amount of time to do it . It would have to be a group effort. The amount of stamps just up to 1970 is beyond one person .
So I will continue to say ---"I just want to see how far down that path I could go"

Worldwide stamp collecting has been my entertainment and free time enjoyment ,I just never wanted it to be anything else .
I just purchased three large, end of the auction worldwide junk boxes from Schuyler Rumsey Stamp Auctions to have something to work on during the NFL football playoffs and Superbowl games ---just more entertainment .

Filling gaps in a worldwide collection becomes a lifetime project . Gotten to a point where the only way to fill those blank spaces is to buy each stamp separately . It gets beyond the cost and becomes a satisfaction thing to known finally filled that space .

It is like a driven goal ,even 200 or 300 stamps a year and continue that goal for 5 or 8 years to work on it . Much like the goal I am working on now to buy those COMPLETE SETS that most collectors don't have in their worldwide collection .

Someday ,I will start organizing my stamp collection or Someday I will finish the collection with the way I want it .

SOMEDAY --- is one of the major disease's of the hobby . Many collectors on the day they die are still saying ---SOMEDAY . You can see that at many large stamp auctions firms where they are offering up many incomplete collections or boxes of unmounted collections with many with stamps still on the original auction folders or cards because the former collector plan to organize his/her material into a collection .

SOMEDAY ,I will find the right album ,or the right pages ,maybe find the right stamp catalog for reference ,it is always SOMEDAY .
