Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

I had forgotten my frustration in that with the Big Blue set until recently when I tried to incorporate some GB Regionals into them. 2 spots from a set of 6 only in BB, etc…. So do I fill the empty spots in BB and have incomplete pages from whence the stamps come from or keep them whole and leave the spots empty in BB? In this case I filled the spots in BB with other duplicates and kept the other sets whole and now in a separate binder. Round 'n round we go!!

But I think that is half the fun of collecting worldwide, going down those rabbit holes looking for varieties (esp those not listed in Scott but only in national specialized catalogues) or as you show with the Estonia, fakes next to the legitimate copies.

There really is never a dull moment collecting once one stops collecting "to the album layout" or "to Scott"

yeah floor trader. I noticed myself doing that too. I used to throw stuff away. Now if the previous owner did something good, I try to save and build on what they did. Sometimes my collection looks like a collection of other people's collections. LOL

Greendragon --- Agree there is nothing wrong with adding someone's work to your collection . If a page is well done why try to improve it ,it is very easy for anyone to see what I have done and what I have that was done by someone else .

DJCMHOH --- True being a W.W. collector is never a dull moment . The thing with me is not a race to get the most stamps but to find what others have missed or not looking at .

At this point in collecting I look at stamp auction catalogs and ask myself ,what is there that has not been in any catalog for years ? Is there a country or a subject that I never seen before or that appears rarely .The never dull moment is the finding a collection most people pass up or don't follow .

STAMPS4LIFE ---- Agree with the way you are handling of keeping your set intact .

Since there is no guide book for collectors to follow and each one does what they think is right, it no surprise over time you find others solve the problem the same as you did .

Unless I overlook it, I don't ever see Dead Countries. I have over time bought 1 or 2 books and it's interesting to me, but can't ever remember seeing it listed as such. Maybe they are listed individually when applicable? Maybe there is no interest in it anymore??

Coming from the South Side of Chicago ,you had to have a good Danzig collection or Bud Hennig would not talk to you .

Those are pretty ! Bud, like Big Blue blog Bud?? I think thats the name I've seen there.....

Bud Hennig was the guy who influenced the way stamp exhibition should be written and presented . He also help set up the rules how stamp show exhibitions should be run and judged .

Bud was a expert on European stamps and was called on to be the head judge across Europe for many shows . In Chicago ,he was one of the creators of COMPEX .

Stamps4Life- not "Bud" from Jim Jackson's BB blog. Jim had mentioned in a post a couple of years ago after meeting Bud, that he lives somewhere near the East Coast.

Little concern today ---- was at Chicagopex yesterday. Got to see and talk to a few old friends on the sales floor ,it was crowned . Then went to spend time in the exhibits and frames rooms . Was surprised how few viewers where there to see the exhibits .

This lack of viewers is surprising how much it has fell off . Years ago there were exhibits on the floor with groups and you had to dance around people to get down the aisle . I never remember these exhibits being this empty .

It was not the exhibitors or the show people who set this up but it was the lack of interested viewers ,some exhibits kept my attentsion .Some good first class research and neat layouts .

Will be going back today yes will read more of the exhibits . Not so much to be a future exhibitor but to understand what others are doing . I will stay with posting on line

Went to buy blank 102 cards in the sales room,backed off on that idea, they were 7 cents apiece per thousand ,heck with that I will erase a few hundred that I have at home and recycle those .

floortrader, have you ever considered creating a website similar to the Antonius Ra or Cheng Chang websites for your collection. Especially with all the specialty items, fakes and forgeries etc. that you have, creating a website could become a wonderful reference site for worldwide collectors in the future.

DJCMHOH---- I haven't heard from/ of Antonius-Ra {mitch } in years . Last time was when his mother was asking for her established GO-FUND -ME account ,she was asking to rebuild Mitch's house after the house burn it down which was located behind his fathers house . The amount was $30,000 to replace house and furniture . I sent a donation thru GO-FUND since we were friends .

Cheng Chang was a bidder/buyer at Greg Manning Stamp Auctions . He was buying Scott Speciality Albums back when I would drive out to purchase material too .


I would say I prefer to build my own collection and show what I am working on .I didn't want to be someone who shows other peoples work and claim it as mine . I wanted to show the stuff that a collector has a chance to buy . Not one to buy expensive stamps and show a dozen or two .
When you look at the history of stamp collecting ,You can read about how much money it was sold for and the dozen high price stamps that they own and not much more .

We need to have a place that beginner collectors can see and understand what a decent size collection can look like .This website of the STAMP COMMUNITY gives a new collector a good view point about the hobby ,both the good and bad and ability to see what others are doing and the pros and cons discussed .

floortrader that is what I meant - create a website like what they have that would show your collection - preserve a record of it for future generations to be able to reference.
