Most cool countries to collect in Africa, Pre 1940 and then after.

Also there was a cool WW thread made by a username with Spain. Why did the blog stop. It was as good as this one.

Greendragon --- Agree it is fun to collect early Africa but after a few hundred stamps which are common material ,then it gets expensive especially all the long sets that were issued .

One area of stamp collecting that I never read about is the adding of very specialized collections to a Worldwide stamp collection .

At many of the large stamp auction firms over my beginning years of going to these auctions is what is happening to all the specialized stuff ?

I started adding this material intact into my collection , sometimes cutting the pages down and repunching the holes on the pages and sometimes rewriting the pages ,over time as new material came my way ,even redoing the pages ,but it is fun to add new material to someone's work .

The surprise will be when I am gone and someone is going thru my collection and realize that their are hundreds of work done by other collectors intact in the stuff they are viewing .

From another thread, one may have noticed that I've begun to try and sort misc accumulations of British from various auctions. I've come across Free Albums software from thestampweb.com and am looking at that software to make pages. Anyone use it? Looks pretty simple.

A lot of good info here as how people handle their collections. Still perusing it and am curious - I see bits about high value stamps, each one seemingly has their own definition - so, do you the stamp where it belongs in the set, album spot, etc., or keep 'em separate as 'high values' ?

I think you'd only keep high values in their own little world if you were an "investor", rather than a stamp collector. Then again, I don't have the 1c magenta.

I think that there are two separate, and somewhat related, discussions about the high-value stamps in a set.

First is the discussion about buying full sets to set your collection apart from all of the collections you see that have short sets. Short sets are easier, and cheaper, so they're common.

Second is where you put them. If you're collecting with the Internationals, there won't be spots for many of the high values, so you're going to have to put them somewhere; perhaps on a blank page that you insert into the binder? Perhaps custom pages or Steiner?

I can't imagine separating out the higher values, just because, if you weren't being pushed that direction by the limitations of your "system."

And that is why the really, really complete and valuable WW collections that I have seen sold (infrequently for sure) end up comprised of lots of Country specific albums.

To me an International collection will always be a "representative" collection. Granted, it can be taken a long way but by its nature it will be incomplete. Otherwise, you really just have an International in name only once you are done with all the modifications.

Steiner makes so much sense, but I understand the romance of a big set of Internationals.

We have all seen the vast number of fake Nazis stamps in the last 40 years especially in the last 20 years appear on ebay and other stamp selling sites . But here is a real stamp set that has it's own story that goes back to the war years .

My feeling about the Scott International and the problem of broken sets and incomplete sets could of been corrected by issueing a revise set of 50 or 60 pages and this special offer package of pages could of corrected a few problems like two countries on the same page and also made correction where they had pages which showed one stamp when it could be added of others in the same country . . Another problem was airmail pages that in pre-1940 days were added to semipostal pages breaking up your airmails into two different places in your album .

Scott basicly was losing their people who were buying their albums over time .

Thanks for page showing what a genuine stamp should be like for the Russian Offices in Latvia. I have a page of these sorted by paper shades and stamp shades. But never knew what the genuine was like.

I have a few genuine but most of mine are not. They are the forgery mentioned plus some others not described.

THINKSTAMPS---- I also like those pages ,well done description and layout . Pick those up in a large lot from Rasdale.

Why my worldwide collection will never get to the point of being 50% complete , because I always find stuff like this to add to it .

There is no end game here ,it is "chasing rabbits " sort of going down a path which never ends.
