Through 2010 there's about 620K stamps (anyone have a more current statistic?) , A very large portion would be fairly low catalog.

Postmaster GS' website has a compilation of catalog values of world stamps. I don't know how up-to-date it is or what is or is not included as a variety. If Postmaster GS is reading this he can provide the details.

If you add it up there are 759,000 different stamps and of those 622,000 are less than 10€.

I would be interested in the breakdown of the 10€ category and would like to know how many of those 622,000 stamps catalog under 1€.

Now that would be really cool. What if someone collected all the stamps with a rule that a stamp can't catalog for more than 1.00 dollar or Euro at the time you bought it. How many different stamps could you collect. I bet that would still sell for a good amount of money. As a thought experiment. How would you do it economically? And if you end up with high value stamps in your collection through a collection buy, I guess you could always sell it.

The question of getting every stamp in worldwide albums is a goal to far .

Having meet many previous goals like a stamp on every page of my album . As I got older it was a stamp from every country . Having spend 50 years at many stamp auction houses viewing other peoples worldwide collections ,I have a new goal .

That goal was and still is to get those stamps that just never show up in other worldwide collections . It is not a question of spending a lot of money and just have a few rare items but the goal is all those low hanging stamps that are unusual to find in most collections . Those stamp that are a wow factor to experience worldwide collectors and fun to show others ,those that just missing. How many are there ,many thousands .

Beautiful set!

I collect used, for reasons both philosophical and cost-related, but there's something about the 30s engravings (France also comes to mind here) that could almost make me change my mind...

Lovely set, Floortrader. I've found Zanzibar stamps to be very prone to toning and gum-cracking, so great to see a clean set.

There is certain points in each persons life that influence each person and help push you in a new direction or pushes you to give the extra effort .

When I receive this mailer ,I must of read it a dozen times the first day it came to me ,then for the next few days I read it again another few times . This was received about 30 years ago .

To new readers and new collectors ----- There is a lot of information in the above bright red flyer that needs to be understood if your trying to understand the buying and selling of worldwide collections .

First is the high percentage of catalog in the asking price ,today it would be lower, I understand the price is a factor to what is in the collection ,maybe a lot of better sets .But asking that price it clearly needs a viewing .

Second -What is advertised ,they are telling you what is not in the collection ,that is not done today .

Third -- Your buying a collection but you don't know if countries or whole sections haven't been pulled especially with the previous owner maybe kept the older material to be put in his Browns ,so a whole section of this collection could be held back .

Fourth --- He states defective older stamps are in the collection are these figured in the total catalog ,not sure ?

Fifth ----- Call for a appointment for viewing , should be aviable and stated ,come on $65,000 should mean a sit down.

Six --Why state blank pages were added for your adding souvenir sheets --Dumb remark in a ad .

Seven ----- "offering a good start for someone else " ---- $65,000 is a start ? really-- what planet you live on ?

"As I got older it was a stamp from every country"- I am here. Actually this is where I started. Then I have veered off this route a bit to try to collect select countries more deeply.

The talk above about how many stamps of the 750,000 different are cheap stamps or stamps that cost less than 1 euro /one dollar .

Yes there is a lot of cheap stamps but try and find some of them , there are 30,000 to 50,000 different stamps nobody has them .

Let's discuss this, first most or maybe all dealers don't stock cheap stamps any more ,if they can't get a dollar for them why keep them in inventory . Just throw them in a mixture lot .

I have a set of International that I been filling ,believe me I have slammed 8 or 10 different Scott International's Sets or parts of a set up against my set and I STILL HAVE A LOT OF CHEAP STAMPS MISSING .

If you think someone can buy 5 or 6 worldwide collections and fill their own albums up ,your mistaking after 3 collections your buying duplicates mostly .

I have not seen A& D STAMPS inventory in 15 years but I have to believe all those hard to find cheap stamps have long ago been pick out by collectors willing to pay full catalog for those stamps they couldn't find at the many stamp shows and bourses they attended . Guess I could say those 475 red boxes {biggest stamp inventory in the world } have been cleaned out of those stamps long ago and as they restocked then again picked out again .

Thanks GVOL21 and STAMPDRAGON for your positive comments .

"30,000 to 50,000 different stamps nobody has them" - non-back of the book, but regular or airmail may we have 5 examples. Just curious if I would have one.
