Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

My worldwide collecting has been mainly based on breaking down two huge Sandafayre carton lots from many years ago containing 100s of thousands of stamps. I have taken great delight in building up sets and ranges of mainly cheaper items that Floortrader above points out can be difficult to source. I take as much satisfaction of putting together a full run of France SG 61 Peace for instance as I did last weekend as a better cat. commem. set.

there are so many stamps out there… many dealers won't have much from the last 30 years… with what around ten thousand new stamps a year there's going to be quite a few tough ones to track down

On the question about all the new issues ,remember I was amazed that A&D stamps had some 574 red boxes . Some how I could not believe that number ,but when you factor in just the new issues of the past 30 years . It becomes more belivable . Has anybody seen that inventory or has it been made public who has it now .

Guess with 4 or 5 copies each in a seperate 102 card and covering 30 years ,yea ! Believe 574 boxes can be done .

They "only" carried 3 copies

Eyeonwall -------OK ,accept that . Take main display boxes which have only 3 different of each stamp out to the shows and have some boxes at the shop filled with back up stock ,is a possibility .

Sometimes you are looking at someone's album and see a note like this {i cut this out from the album after I purchased the album } . It states this is a rare stamp from the British P.O in Mesopotamia . I looked at it and thought I seen this before ,so looked in my collection at home ,sure enough not rare stamp just a regular Turkish newspaper stamp .

You can always doubt when your told "this is rare "

YORKIE 68 ---- No matter how experience a collector gets or becomes a expert ,there is always a great delight to just sit down and go thru a mixture box . I always keep a few boxes around or buy a extra box just to have it around to work on .

I had a look at Robson Lowe. Entirely different base stamp for the scarce issue. Not sure how he managed to confuse himself!

Floor - they did have a backup stock, but it was not extensive. Extensive would've cost too much in terns of both money & space.

Floortrader, how do you dispose of your duplicates? I figure that you must generate quite a few...

Gvol21 --- Thru various ways , mostly thru Rasdale Stamp Auctions for better material , I am their oldest active customer both buying and selling . There is a ebay seller who buys my dup's if he can make country collections

If they were hinged previous ,then I will hinge them to the page . The only time I use mounts is if they catalog above a certain level and are MNH . All this modern stuff I just go ahead and hinge it ,it makes no difference .

One of the most stupid things about this hobby is all the collectors who keep supporting the STAMP MOUNT Companies . I seen collections in albums where the cost of the mounts exceeded the value of the whole album with stamps .

On the subject of duplicates , I make a effort to buy a large set of Scott Internationals maybe 7 to 25 volumes which are lacking in the area of stamps but a nice slightly used set of albums . I then spend two years adding stamps to this set then putting in up in a public auction . Did you see prices on those well stocked albums and the price they are getting ? There is no better way to realize the highest possible price for one's duplicates .

floor trader - mixing stamp mounts and hinges on the same page does not look as nice to some people. Price is relative for mounts. You can get them for a fraction of the price in a bulk lot. You only have to be on the lookout for warped mounts.
