Is there an abundance of good quality China lurking in the market right now? Wondered the same thing about Malaya. |

I've no idea, but any Chinese or Malayan stamps (and not special ones) that I've put on ebay have gone well - usually to China or Malaysia. |

floortrader - the emerging beginning stamp collector has moved. They are now mostly in China and other Asian countries. |

Greendargon ---- I been watching the Asia market for 15 years ever since China "got hot " I just don't see much interest there in worldwide stamps ,I see their interest in early China but little else . |

"We are losing the beginner collector" I was reminded of a story at this weekend's Metropex in the Twin Cities. I have a pretty large sandwich board with giant letters on it that says "Stamp Show" with an arrow. It's heavy and a pain but it works. I look at the registration sheets and quite a few non collectors see the sign and stop in to see what it is all about. You have to advertise to reach people! One year someone driving by saw the sign, stopped in our show and is now our secretary and is in charge of our club newsletter! We still maintain a nickel pool of US and worldwide stamps. We don't get many kids, but they get a kick out of the pool. Sometimes the stamps spill out though ;) |

floortrader - a large stamp vendor told me that 20% of all stamp collections he sells goes to Asia. The other trend is that stamp collections are moving from the coasts to the South where the retirees are moving too. |

LANDOQUAKES --- Great idea with the sign outside to steer people in for a free look . I build my collection on those nickle tables during those times of poor income flow , at the time those were 2 cents tables .You do understand those purchases at a nickle ,sorted and mounted into albums today do regularly sell at 10 cents each at major auctions and on ebay when displayed thru scans of albums . |

The big difference between a jumbled hoard, even if it's on pages, mounted or hinged, and a collection is organising the stamps, correctly IDing them and making some sort of sense of what you've got. I love looking at the posts here and seeing the complete sets that are posted |

I am not saying there are not collectors getting into the hobby . But what is clear there are not as many as there was thru the 1960's thru 2010 . It is like the interest to start is down a huge percentage . Asian collectors are buying collections for their home countries . |

floortrader - yes you are right here. There are less beginning collectors than before in general. The young are not interested in collecting stamps. They are buying cryptos and NFTs and pokemon cards. |
