Oh dear!

Royal Mail is vague about the cause. Since they involved police who handle serious crimes, this may be sabotage.

Interesting that it coincides with the FAA NOTAM issue in the US that grounded all air traffic yesterday.

Ugh, I know it's a small data set, but I wonder if this is why 2 of the last 4 items I've purchased from the UK (all from different sellers) have not arrived yet. One was due early December and the other was purchased 12/10 and due sometime between 12/31 and 1/4. I've been receiving purchases from all other countries without any issue. Seller provided a refund for the one due in early December. I'll give the other a few more days before contacting the seller to give them a heads up. Has anyone else in the US been recently experiencing more delay in UK mail than in mail received from other European countries?

There have been postal strikes - which are ongoing - since November. Mail will therefore be delayed. I've had post taking four weeks to reach me recently.

I have sent many items overseas from the UK and there are some items delayed, others arrive quite well. Its the same with local post, some items going a few miles have taken weeks, others quickly. Newspaper headlines suggest the issue today is a computer failure... so could be a virus/sabotage of some sort.

This is not good news, but not surprising news. Nothing on the internet or encoded in software is truly protected and uncrackable/unhackable. The closes way to be unhackable is serious encryption but that is not allowed as law enforcement is against it. In short "your victimization" is allowed to help law enforcement get the victimizers of others. Government gets to make the value judgements here. Also as computer power increases, previous encryption will be as resistant to attack as Jello is to a fork.

I've recently received a fair number of purchases from Continental Europe — mostly from France, but also Germany, Italy, Spain, and even Romania — and they've all reached me in California in the 1–3 week range. But I've been waiting for one item from the U.K. for 45 days now.

The issue with international mail has been resolved. Royal Mail's Tallents House itself has sent out its new issues from earlier this month. Since they claim to sent these under IOSS, but do not even post their source number, I refused to pay taxes for a second time. So, the sending is on its way back to Edinburgh and I have no idea how long it took. However, I get the impression delays in the processing of international mail from the UK is pretty much normal but may be interrupted by strikes every now and then.

I think it's been partly resolved, given their latest update -
