Quote: Does one collect an editorial decision or the first stamp released? If you use pre-printed albums, you are usually following a catalog. Scott and SG sorts sets (definitive series) by denomination and more intended for organization and presentation. |

Kazakhstan Sc/SG #1 issued 17th March 1992. Formerly a republic of the Soviet Union, Kazakhstan declared its independence in 1991. Kazakh might originate from the Turkic word verb qaz-, 'to wander', reflecting the Kazakhs' nomadic culture. (First Issues Collectors Club)  A proof draft. Tajikistan Sc/SG #1 issued 20th May 1992. On 9 September 1991, Tajikistan declared itself an independent sovereign nation as the Soviet Union was disintegrating. A civil war was fought almost immediately after independence, lasting from 1992 to 1997.   Source: Wikipedia |

During WW2, in 1941, Bulgaria occupied part of Yugoslav Macedonia and Bulgarian stamps were subsequently used. In 1944, German troops briefly occupied the area and declared its independence. Overprinted Bulgarian stamps were issued. SG #1.  |

In December 1922, Ireland, except for six counties that voted to remain within the United Kingdom became a Free State. In the run up to that moment, the future Free State of Ireland had a provisional government. Stamps of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland were overprinted 'Provisional Government of Ireland 1922' in Gaeilge. The ½d stamp from a set of eight stamps is listed as nr.1 for Éire by most catalogues and as T1 by the Hibernian Handbook.  |

Kosovo, Republic Sc #93 issued 7th March 2008 (First Issue Listed in Scott). On 17 February 2008, Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia. Serbia did not accept the declaration until the Brussels Agreement of 2013.   Image Credit: Wikipedia |

Kosovo SG #118 (Sc #114) issued 2009. Gibbons begins with this 2009 issue, SG118, numbering from the 1913 Kingdom issues. Scott started numbering after the United Nations Interim Administration Mission (U.N.M.I.K.) issues.  |
