Hi all, I'm currently looking to transfer my Denmark collection (1851 to 1951) from stock pages and dealer cards to an album, and I've got two (semi-specific) questions about pre-printed album pages.
1. To anyone's knowledge, what is the most comprehensive Denmark album available, from what I gather I see the following companies currently make pre-printed pages and albums for Denmark, with small remarks from what I can gather:
Davo (From reviews I've seen, most of their hingeless albums are simplified, the USA 1847-1944 I purchased last year oddly has a lot of space for the rarer grilled issues, but is missing a lot of the W/F variations, so this one may be a no-go)
Lindner and SAFE (Interesting looking system, pictures I saw don't look to have many variations however)
Lighthouse (The one I'm most curious about, I love every Lighthouse product I've purchased so far, and I would hope their pages would be fairly comprehensive, even if in European catalogue order)
Palo (These also look lovely, but don't look very specialized)
Schaubek (The one I admittedly know the least about, there aren't page pictures on their website, so I'm not sure)
Scott (I've had a little bit of experience with Scott pages, they usually have the major SC# but do they have the variations? I don't know enough.)
Stender (The most intriguing, but also the one with seemingly the least amount of info on the English-speaking web. Looks specialized by AFA catalog?)
2. What printable pages are out there that may fit this need? I would have to find a paper I like and then purchase Hawid clear mounts (my personal choice,) but this may be the best option? I know of the Steiner pages and StampBooks dot com, and I'm not sure how comprehensive they may be. I also have the ability to make pages with something like AlbumEasy, which may be the outright best option in terms of comprehensiveness & customizability, but would probably be fairly time consuming to produce.
Thanks for any replies!

It's a while since I got rid of my Scandinavian stamps, but … my experience was that both Davo (whose albums I dislike) and Schaubek would have the odd additional printed page carrying some varieties of the earlies for those who were interested. If, for any country, you have a collection that goes much beyond the main issues, you'll need to incorporate blank pages to accommodate your vareties. |

Hi.
I have two questions for you.
1. Which catalogue are you currently using for your Denmark collection?
2. Most printed one country albums will contain spaces primarily for major issues. The Scott albums (I own Austria through 2008) contain spaces for Scott major numbers only. How extensive a selection of varieties do you have currently?
My understanding is that the Stender album includes spaces for varieties, but I have not seen one to be able to verify.

@GeoffHa I figured as much, when you really start to get into the variations, I know I'll have to get blank pages at some point, but if there is an album that does a lot of the work, it would definitely be nice to have!
@StatesmanStamper I'm currently sorted by Scott# with AFA# noted underneath when the numbers diverge, I think ultimately I prefer AFA for the amount of varieties they list.
I know I would likely have to add in additional pages for certain varieties (inverted frames and whatnot come to mind,) but from what I saw of the Stender albums, they have spaces for major color variations (The example page I saw had spots for 5 colors of the 1852 4RBS issue, as a reference.)
@Petert4522 Thank you for this! This doesn't have many of the color variations, but still looks quite nice! |

Stender may be your best bet, but they seem to have a recent history of production issues (read up at the Jay Smith link, above) that may threaten your plans. I'd guess Lighthouse would be the peer or close second. |

@Kobland I use Stender for the Main numbers of stamps but stoped in 1984, there also is pages with invertede frames. You could make the pages yourself but I know it is time consumming. In older albums there where sections of other types of danish stamps and DWI Stender I think is no longer availabel, you migh have to buy usede album if you want Stender. I have a link to a dealer in Denmark, with a selection of different types of accesories. I can suggest to buy a AFA Danmark catalog, you will find some varieties also in the catalog, you might be able to find the cataloge sheaper I do not know, you do not have to buy the newest AFA katalog see if you can find some from 2018-20 they might be sheaper. https://www.nordfrim.com/accessorie...inted-albums and https://www.samlerforum.dk/produkte...mmer-superb/ |

Quote: Thank you for this! This doesn't have many of the color variations, but still looks quite nice! You can download the Albumeasy source for that album. I wonder if there's room on the pages to add spaces for some of your color variations and still get the page layouts to look nice? |

@Kobland Quote: This doesn't have many of the color variations, but still looks quite nice! Keep in mind that the more specialised your collection becomes, the fewer people there will be who collect the same. Album publishers will want to make a profit. Designing pages only very few people use might be a loss-making proposition. Adding those pages to an album scares away potential buyers. This also holds for catalogues. Not long ago, I had a mail exchange with Roy Hamilton-Bowen. He edits the Hibernian Handbook of Éire stamps. This is quite specialised. It lists paper varieties. He told me that he limited the paper varieties listed in the Handbook. The reason was he had received very negative reactions on a more comprehensive listing. I think it is a pity, but I can understand that he cannot publish a Handbook only I think is what the hobby is missing. I have a limited range of countries I collect. I do collect at a specialised level. I make my own pages using the Lindner 'T Blanko' system. It allows me the freedom to add what I like. My old DAVO GB albums are sparsely filled. For Ireland, I did not even consider an album, but made my own. Quote: Most Comprehensive Denmark Printed Album? When only one publisher publishes a Denmark printed album, that will be it. When a second publisher adds one perforation variety, that will be it. Printed albums, usually, do not cater for specialist collectors. When you collect varieties and you want an album, consider using a blank system that suits your preferences and make your own album. You, also, could add blank pages to a printed album. However, if you are like I am, you might not want to have one stamp on one page with other face-values, and the colour varieties of that one stamp on an extra page, thus showing only the 'varieties' consider starting from scratch with a blank system. |

Not sure if you are still looking for album pages, but I specialize in Danish stamps and created an album based on the Facet catalogue and designed/measured for Scott/Prinz black mounting. It includes all major issues, printings, and variations under the following areas:
-Definitives: through 2005 (back section for classic printings, "Ore Value" frame types, and all other major variants) -Commemoratives: through 1976 (back section for dual-paper (fluorescent) issues) (building towards 2000) -Back Matter: complete (airmail, postal ferry, postage due, official use, special services, newspaper soldier use) (back sections for all major variants) -Danish Colonies: complete Danish West Indies, Slesvig Plebiscite, and Thule; Faroe Islands through 1982 (still working on completing the Faroe Islands and Greenland)
I would estimate it to be around 150 pages total. I can post some sample pictures if you are interested. |

David Waters made a fully illustrated album for Denmark from 1851 to 1999 inclusive. You can download the free album as either a pdf and/or the corresponding AlbumEasy text file, which if you have the ( also free) AlbumEasy software, you can modify the pages anyway you'd like. Download from https://www.thestampweb.com/albums/free-downloads Scroll down to DENMARK and click to download whichever file(s) you want. |

What types of varieties does AFA tend to list for Denmark that are not covered in Facit? |

Steiner pages are the best bang for the buck. They have everything listed in Scott's plus you can print what you want, when you want, for a small portion of what the others cost. Since you print your own pages you can very easily customize pages you want as you need them for very little money. I switched all my other albums such as Scott, Davo, Schaubek etc. to Steiner pages.
When I did the switch I was shocked when I found Steiner was more complete than Scott, Davo etc.

@Shermae I guess you do not want me to list all the variety which is in AFA that differ from FACIT, if you want to see Specializede Denmark AFA, have AFA -Special from 1996 issued every 5-7 years until 2016. If you want to experience Danish variety, here is a homepage which unfortunally is closed for all member, but is still updatede. I was user nr. 3 and signed up in 2004. here is a link. It is in danish only, where it says Pålydende, it is search field and you can find the value in danish Øre or Kr. you want to examine: https://porsgaard-larsen.com/stamp/ |
