Yes the print looks very rough. This is why I suspected it could be a old imitation or fake .

It looks OK to me. The numeral cancel is '1' from the Melbourne G.P.O.

The stamp was issued in 1854, designed and printed by Campbell and Ferguson in Melbourne.

I know this stamp has been forged, but from the scan it looks OK.

If the cancel can be shown to be genuine then the stamp would be.

I believe the poor scanning gave the stamp that pasty impression, until the stamp has a proper scan it would not be possible to give an opinion of it.
