Just to gather into this thread a wee bit of further information on the C15, I'll report that the C15 with corner selvage and date, MNG-OG, which I showed above went for $1,200 hammer in yesterday's Schuyler Rumsey Westpex sale.

I would have liked to have had it to put next to my C14 to illustrate the sequence of events, but that's the way the wallet closes....

Yes, IMO the "victor" of the bidding battle overpaid.
Powersearch shows Siegel has sold in the last 7-8 years several coin daté singles all for $500-$550 hammer.
