The Rumsey Westpex Sale has a purported RS173i vertical pair created from a cut-down and reperforated RS173j. The genuine imperforate pairs are horizontal pairs, imperforate vertically. Here is the Rumsey lot #2510.

Revcollector and I previously had a discussion about these fakes

And here is another fake that was in a HR Harmer sale a few years ago

I asked a long time buyer of Rumsey to let them know. Although I expect that Richard or Eric might have told them. There are also two reperforated lots of Mansfields in the sale.

I have always wondered how many of the singles and pairs were originally blocks of four with perfs added

Quite a few. In this case, there is a single, which happens a lot, and a block of four, which is unusual.

The reperforation on the block looks like it was done using a blind carpenter's thumb. I really can't imagine how they missed it.

There is also an RS174di up in the Kelleher sale, lot 708. I question the bottom perfs here, too.
