Why Cannot Image Upload Support Png Flles?

The upload image feature does not support PNG. Is there a reason why the support cannot be added?

I don't know, but when I open a PNG file for editing, it easily allows me to save it as JPG.

Yup, horrible choice for the internet. I upload everything in webp now. Smaller and can't tell the difference from jpg.
