In 1992 Ross Perot said, " We have got to stop sending jobs overseas. It's pretty simple: If you're paying $12, $13, $14 an hour for factory workers and you can move your factory South of the border, pay a dollar an hour for labor, ... have no health care—that's the most expensive single element in making a car— have no environmental controls, no pollution controls and no retirement, and you don't care about anything but making money, there will be a giant sucking sound going south.
... when [Mexico's] jobs come up from a dollar an hour to six dollars an hour, and ours go down to six dollars an hour, and then it's leveled again. But in the meantime, you've wrecked the country with these kinds of deals..." He coin the phrase the "giant sucking sound" to describe the job transfers.

He lost the Presidential Election to a POTUS which supported NAFTA and on 1-1-1994 the sucking sound began. The sound later grew to the scale of a NASA wind tunnel.

I must be naive, I posted the hijacked Liberia collection because I thought it was interesting. It never crossed my mind that this listing could negatively impact my ebay business in any way. Both the Liberia and Kenya collection were sold in July of 2021 to different US based customers. Since then I've sold over 4000 items on ebay and received solid bids for all of them. How could these 2 items on a Chinese web site hurt me?

Please advise!

Hi Ken,
These other listing are rip-offs and your seller name, location, listing design, and listing methods are all associated with it now. The fact that, as one of the best quality sellers on ebay, you have been able to overcome any negative impact on your reputation stands as a testament to the job you are doing. But proving a negative is always going to be difficult short of people proactively communicating that they got ripped-off.
Given what I have experienced over the last 10 years, only about 5% of the people who contacted me privately are willing to go 'public'. And there is no telling how many people never say a word to anyone after doing something they really should have known better than to do. So it does not surprise me that you have not yet heard of any negative impact from you seller identity being stolen and used.

Sorry, why are we talking about NAFTA and China here? Can we please keep political screeds that have absolutely nothing to do with stamps out of this thread? Folks can allege a state-concerted effort to rip off stamp resellers on ebay or whatever if they want, but maybe let's keep that to a different thread.

Looks like a textbook case of listing scraping going on; because you have your username in the item title, it grabbed that, too. This stuff is all either automated or done by folks copying and pasting and image grabbing on the cheap.

Not pleasant, but a) nothing you can do about it, and b) extremely unlikely to hurt your thriving ebay sales. Folks who know your stuff either find you organically on ebay or via sites like this one. In this instance, someone probably did a google search of your username and pulled that link up.

You might consider putting a line of text in your listings to the effect of 'make sure you look for my username on ebay only to make sure it's a genuine listing," etc. Scrapers might be lazy/incompetent enough to include that in their scam postings!

gvol21,
The thread topic certainly includes defining the issue and possible solutions (which only feasible ideas have been identified as government invention or grassroots effort).

I moderate in a way that I feel is fair. Virtually every week we get public or private messages (from all sides of various belief systems) using the 'lets keep politics out of this' theme. I don't play that game any longer because it become overwhelmingly clear to me that the sender was always opposed to the opinion being posted. Out of the hundreds of the requests just in the last year or two I can recall a few times I got a message calling out something as political when the sender actually support the opinion being posted.

We all need to learn some tolerance of other's opinions; censorship is not the solution. And everyone here has a back button on their browser. If you do not like someone's opinion, don't read it and move onto another thread.

Sorry, gvol21, but here in the USA "Liberia" can be both political and controversial due to the history of the word. With the election of POTUS Obama, even

Kenya
is a politically loaded word.

I know it can be difficult to protest about

political screeds
when the protest itself contains political landmines.

NAFTA discusses moving work off shore, that includes when a foreign actor takes from a USA based business of which doing so has been supported for decades. When the foreign actor is in a country, naming the country is on topic just like naming some of the efforts taken to move USA profitable activities off shore and out of a citizen's hands.

Have you checked the discounted prices on Forever Stamps available in many ads and listing? Scott's Catalog section on forgeries and counterfeits has grown so large they removed it from the US Specialized to its own publication. Why are they so common, any idea?

Edit:

I am going to point out that stamps are not apolitical. There have been several stamps issued to honor US first ladies with the most recent spawning protests.

It is normal for a former POTUS to be honored on a stamp after death. Every POTUS has been. To say you look forward to the design of each as they are issued may be factual but say it this way, "I look forward to the POTUS Trump stamp" and watch the storm that would erupt. It would be a statement likely to 'break the internet' as the phrase goes.

Reminds me of a major complaint at work where one person of a particular race complained that a certain co-worker of another race never said hello to her after she transferred to a new assignment area. She blamed the co-worker's racism for never saying hello to her first. The outcome? She was advised to withdraw the unfounded complaint or be disciplined for harassing an ADA protected co-worker and she would be disciplined. The co-worker was basically blind and could not see her (or most anyone else passing in the hallway). The other co-workers asked her, "haven't you noticed we all say hello to him first?" She was a piece of work but did become one of his better defenders.

Various stamp issuing entities have been ripping off collectors for decades, hence the creation of the Appendix in the old Gibbons Simplified World catalogues in 1968.

I recently acquired a 2005 simplified Gibbons Commonwealth catalogue and, based on the rules outlined in 1968, I'm surprised at how much recent material, from pretty much everywhere, is afforded full catalogue listing.

Ken,

The simple answer is that it won't.

I hope you won't mind me picking on you. If I sat back and imagined who my ideal ebay seller would be - it would be you. Good images of everything offered in the listing, superior packaging - I could go on and on but most everyone knows about your quality listings... I have bought from you before and been outbid many (many) times.

John
