In an older thread ( https://goscf.com/t/76908&whichpage=1 ) and others, I see some comments about PSAG certificates,

Quote:
I was concerned about some PSAG certs in the recent Kelleher auction (#755).

Quote:
There is a reason why Rupp and Siegel do not deal in PSAG certs unless it is absolutely unavoidable.

Here is a shocking example from this week's Kelleher sale (781 lot 3958) which was not withdrawn. The auctioneer opened the lot and announced it is actually a 603 not 497 as the Feb 2023 PSAG certificate states. It was sold as a 603, with the correct Superb 98 catalog value. I don't always have the audio on during a sale, I hope all the bidders saw the mistake and bid accordingly, and I hope the winner is notified about the error that PSAG and Kelleher both overlooked.

This leads to my question, another lot in the same sale (lot 3988) is a 554a with a PSAG certificate also from Feb 2023. This "imperf between" error can easily be faked by adding perfs to a 577. Any opinions from this team of experts on whether this is reperfed? I'm bothered by the alignment and spacing of the perfs especially at the bottom right. It sold for $425 vs Scott of $400. My 2019 Datz shows it at $250 and I was willing to risk it at the opening bid which I think was $150 but it quickly went out of my reach. Now I am glad that I passed, after searching the forum for other feedback on PSAG certs.

In retrospect, just wondering what others think of this pair.

Edit: fixed broken URL.
I tried to update the title to say 554a instead of 554A except that the title that I typed already says 554a, yet it says 554A in the index. odd.

Zebraman, could you please omit the "(" and ")" from the link you give above. The link goes not work the way you put it

The bottom perfs in particular bother me, it also seems a bit small vertically.

I'm not pretending to be an expert but at least I know how a line perforator worked in those times.
Whoever punched these holes into imperforated stamps obviously didn't.
