I would say that three out of four clerks I've dealt with in the past month (two of them repeatedly) would have picked up on it. They were very careful to look closely at all my old stamps to check the value added up and that they were "real postage." One even had the clerk at the next window look at them.
These were for a mixture of 20 and 29 cent stamps with various 3 cent fillers from the 1930s. Some of my letters were overweight or close to it so I went to the counter with 'em.
The scrutiny was such that it made me wonder if some directive had come out in March or so to look closely at old postage stamps….. it felt different from earlier window interactions over similar mailings in prior months.
But I think the fourth clerk would have happily cancelled your Antipodean stamp and sent my letter onward as long as the 85 added up with my "charming" 3 cent stamps to whatever was needed.
