Both P14 / MH at right.

Thank you!

Chemical is impossible. Mint with gum.

Background is light with some doubling...

Likely from Sun exposure, but could also be chemical (for example, you can apply hydrogen peroxide lightly to a mint stamp surface lightly with a Q-tip without disturbing the gum).

Why do you think chemical is impossible?

There's a wide range of color for these issues because the purple ink was prone to fading. Michel doesn't give them different catalog numbers, presumably because the color variations were so numerous and on such a continuous spectrum that isn't not possible to draw any firm lines from one color to the next. For the past 10+ years, Michel has included notes under the listing for these issues:
Quote:
Color research has not yet been completed for this issue, so for the moment no new color variations can be cataloged (and expertized). The transitions both in ink as well as the interruptions in the gumming are mainly gradual; certainty in differentiating and expertizing these issues is only currently possible for the stamps cataloged above.

I found some reference to Michel numbers 785a/d. I also found discussions in German about this stamp mentioning Michel both listing colours and not listing colours. Could it be that it used to list colours but decided to delete these and instead added the note?
