The early Mexico reference collection is indeed impressive. Am very interested in the classic Spain reference lot (1446) although I expect it will end up going too high for my wallet.

I've been told the son is aware they still have some material that is owed back to it owners. It is just going to take more time, whether people are happy with that or not.

$30...ten hours of effort chasing it.

What was the book?

The books was "Speciale Catalogus 2015 Postzegels van Nederland en overzeese rijksdelen:"

It's an ~900 page catalogue, and seems to be very difficult to find in the USA. Nationally, libraries don't seem to have it, nor does it seem to be for sale anywhere domestically. The book itself does seem to be available technically cheaper from Europe, but the shipping then seems like it could be around twice the cheaper book price. Weight is ~1.4 kg.

The Sismondos seemed to be the only domestic seller I could find. Since I had issues with the transaction, I kept looking different places, and did end up finding a backup overseas option. I pulled the trigger when it seemed the Sismondo transaction was not going to work. I just received the Paypal refund from that last week.

I guess it all works out, though there is not a quick end to the saga. The seller is meeting USA family in Portugal in September, and offered to pass it to them, who will post it domestically in the USA in the end of September. With all that, the price ended up approximately the same as the Sismondo book (though a bit more).

That is the standard NVPH catalogue that includes the colonial and 'overseas territories' issues.

I love the NVPH catalog. It's quite compact with a hard cover, and covers the whole gamut of Netherlands/territories. Although it is written in Dutch, I discovered quite by accident that many Dutch terms, for example names of colors, are similar to the English words. As I recall, the catalog was not difficult to find online.

My sense is that NVPH isn't a fully specialized catalog. Many issues only have one entry though I feel certain there were printings with different characteristics of shades, papers, etc. Perhaps before about 1905 or so it is more specialized; I have not looked at any listings before 1905.

TIBET - The bulk of the great Tibet material that Geoffrey Flack (as previously referred to as the guy in Vancouver, BC) ever handled ended up with Steve Chazen. Steve (aka "Magnolia" in some sales brochures) was a client of mine and he purchased the Singer collection (from Flack) as well as the Wolfgang Hellrigl collections of Tibet. In addition, I intermediated the purchase of the Rainer Fuchs collection of Tibet to add to his immense holding. Rainer is probably the only Tibet expert I would trust for an opinion at this point but I do not believe he does expert work for pay.

Add-on: to be clear, Steven Chazen passed away and I imagine that there is in excess of $20m of his material (including Tibet, China and Macao) that has yet appear on the market.

Maybe the catalogue, in general, can be found relatively easily online, but I'm talking specifically about the 2015 edition. I wanted the 2015 edition because of a special section on postmarks that only appeared in that edition. The 2015 edition seemed very hard to find domestically.

They have an annual one-off section. The 2015 has one with what we call 'kortebalk' cancellers with 12-hour slugs.

@bmbmbm

Are you aware of this website? It does not show prices, but it does have images and details.

Yes, it appears that they have had annual one-off sections on different types of postmarks in multiple different years of the catalogue.

Yes, I found that website previously. Thanks for telling me though!

Thanks Richard , for that information . About 10 years ago I found that Tibet was "too hard to collect " it was like 4 or 5 people had all the good stuff and it was too expensive and over a long time needed to get their good material on the market .As you said it sells privately also . So I just moved on .

On another subject --- It is sad to see how all the Sismondo material is being sold , I wish more time and efford was put into organizing it, to be sold to a researcher or someone stepping into his shoes .

This should be a wake-up call to every serious collector who follows this Forum to be sure to prepare an "estate plan" to guide his family or trusted advisor in the disposition of his philatelic estate. Put it in writing, let the family know where it is kept, and when appropriate, discuss the details with them so they are not burdened with making rushed decisions when things do not go as planned.

And towards that end, folks can start with a simple 'Disposition Form' which can be downloaded for free on Stamp Smarter here
https://stampsmarter.org/learning/F...osition.html

Obviously not intended to replace a will, this form can certainly give others a better understanding how best to disposition individual albums, books, or bins of stuff.

Download the form, quickly fill it out on your PC, print it, slip it into the front of each album or book.

Anyone else having trouble downloading that form? The link points to a zip file, that contains a pdf that says something like "Please wait while the pdf loads". Is it just me?

Edit: Alternatively, you might try right clicking on button and then selecting "Save Link As' .
