The toning of her face is completely different between the two, is this a possible error?

Nope. Either multiple cylinders for the maroon crimson were used or the printing was done in multiple batches causing different 'shades.' What you have is a 'shade' variety, not an error.

In my opinion, this is a normal stamp.

I have the same 9p Jubilee British stamp with a colour error. Correct purple colour bottom left but then the rest of the stamp is a solid grey colour. Does anyone think this is a genuine error and have any value?

These usually result from light or chemical damage.

It is a colour changeling. I think much of the stamp has been exposed to light, with the bottom left corner, probably, having something on top that protected it

I am not so sure, because if it was light or chemical damage surely you would see the same for the queens head and the surrounding central area. It just seems like it is the purple area that has been affected.

Not all colours are equally affected by light.

Send it to the RPSL or BPA expertising for a certificate. You might get lucky and have a hugely valuable printing error. That's better than asking for opinions and dispute it when it is not to your liking.

In many cases, a tell-tale attribute of color changelings is the fading of colors across the surface.

51studebaker thanks for that document, it clearly states that it is a colour changeling and not a printing error. Thanks to all for your prompt help with clarifying this, as I am pretty new to stamps.
