IMO Linn's does a good job of discussing spacefillers.

Good article, thanks for linking to it @rog. From the article...

Quote:
Attitudes vary widely among stamp collectors on this subject, as they do on practically every subject.

No, not just "practically every subject." Philately breeds the greatest diversity of attitudes and opinions.

Interestingly the article describes a stamp with even one short perf as can be a space filler; HOWEVER, there is zero, as in no, mention of a reperforated stamp on one or more sides as being a space filler.

Philatelic attitudes
gives the word "diversity" a much worse name than it has as a politically correct exclusionary term as widely used today when it comes to discussing who is "in," who is "out," and which ideas are better, worse or need to just be be cancelled.

Some interesting follow-up...

The seller of the stamp I pictured in the first post contacted me, unsolicited, to say that he sold it to a buyer for $50 (not $120) and included the information I provided him with pointing out the flaws. What a mensch!

Then there's the other side of the coin: two dealers selling really bad copies, with damaged or missing parts of the stamps drawn in. Neither of them were willing to discuss/acknowledge the issues or concede on the prices, one of which was near full cat. One of them actually said "find another dealer."

Anyway... Thanks again to everyone for sharing your perspectives.
