Seems like the concensus - here and in my other thread - is that Auktionhaus Gartner is a perfectly fine outfit, but that, between shipping costs and limited value, not the right fit for my friend's collection.

*** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. please do not cross-post, it makes a mess of the the thread and makes search functionality even uglier***

PS: cross-posting this question in my other thread becaue there's even more auction discussion over there...

Notice that there are two words in that description " MNH and complete " Those two are missing in your lot ,yours has C.T.O. {used } and yours have stamps missing .

The collection you refer to states that all stamps are MNH (mint, never hinged). This is the post-office condition of almost all stamps, like when you buy them at the post office. The collection you have seems to be mainly used stamps, which are worth less.

I should mention here that almost everyone here in the forum reading one of your threads is also reading the other one so you may wish to post to only one of them moving forward.

As the value of this collection appears to be on the low end, it would seem senseless to swallow up what value there is by shipping it to the U.S. (let alone to Europe). I would suggest using a Canadian auction firm, such as Sparks or Longley to save on these costs.

"Payment: This is where it gets interesting and potentially painful/frustrating. I have had it take almost a year, exclusive of the nine months to a year auction process, to be made whole when selling through DFK. Their internal policies may have changed but in my case, they did not pay until they were paid and that was problematic. That meant that from the time I handed over the goods until the time I received my last payment was in excess of one year."

And you really don't know if the buyer was a late payer or if they paid on time and the auction firm just floated themselves a free loan for months at your expense.

Not good. I don't sell much at auction, but my payments have been made in six weeks (and effectively some up front if I've bought in the same sale).

Canadian auction houses that commonly sell this kind of material - Sparks, Maresch, Weeda. All easy to deal with in my experience.
