I came across a huge lot of thousands of portuguese stamps .Stamps are very old .I´m not a stamp collector ím more of a gatherer (more of a numismatic with 16000 coins)but I was amazed with the quantity and the price wasn´t that bad so I got it and eventually i´m going to sell them (i still dont know)but first I wanted to show in our forum .Here some of the photo´s of the lot but I will post more because there are a lot of interesting things from the portuguese colonies.

Very nice. I've enjoyed sorting my Portuguese/Colonies stamps over the years, especially the omnibus issues.

The stamps on some of the pages show quite a bit of staining, that appears to be from the acid in the paper reacting with trace moisture -- it's not unusual to see this in the older Portuguese stamps, especially if they have been stored in environments elevated temperatures/humidity.

Although it's not contagious like mildew, it can still promote acid attacks on nearby stamps/pages. So you need to remove them from the pages and isolate them. The acid damage is not reversible, and unfortunately, will take off a pretty huge chunk of the retail value. There was a reason why you were able to purchase the lot so cheaply.

Thanks for sharing the pics! I enjoyed looking at the stamps!

Yes, a very tasty lot,

I see you are a gatherer,
when you become a stamp collector,
you become a "hunter gatherer"

Particulary mouth watering for me were the items
from Lourenco Marques and the Azores items.

Thanks for sharing.

That is a great collection. Thanks for showing!
However I came across the last set of images and was surprised.

Portugal's Franchise stamps are rarely scene and here you have a complete set of both "Civilian Rifle Clubs" & " The National Aid Society for Consumptives" very, very nice!

Thanks for letting the world see them!
Mike

Like Warrehouse I enjoyed the "back of book" charity stamps etc..its something how collecting can progress..at first I wanted the large colorful stamps, then I realized that a collection also needs the smaller and lower value stamps...and eventually we may become interested in the back of book officials, postage dues, charity stamps etc !!
