Clearly made long after the need for tax stamps, but is there any information about how OD Chemical Company used these labels?

RS302 used lists about $2.50 but this label is running about 4X 11X that amount with hours to go. Leads me to believe the label has interest some where.

Edit: Improve Title and update price. 2nd edit: Sold for $30 plus S&H as well as taxes if applicable.

these are listed in the 9th edition of the Springer cat. (if memory serves me right) there are 4 types. they were used to seal the product packages post 1901 when the proprietary tax was repealed, the public having become used to stamps and being told that the product was not genuine without the same by meny manufacturers. they may also be listed in one of the Drummond catalogs.

There are at least five versions of these, sometimes with minor variations. I have four, and this one looks like it's different in having lines both above and below the words "WAR" and "SCAR." One of mine is lacking "VICTORY," the two denominations, and the wording beneath the central circle. It also has "OD PEACOCK SULTAN Co" in the center circle. That's probably the one missing in Springer, but I haven't gone looking.
