We haven't seen East India Company and early British India in a while, so here are a few to start off, out of a small glassine I recently picked up. Can't vouch for any of them, as forgeries exist of the first issues. Anyway, post 'em if you got 'em. Sc#2 #6, sadly, cut to shape (but it probably wouldn't have been in a small lot if it wasn't) #33, one of the early Government Issues (still pre-Empire) And spock has been complaining about a lack of Ed, so here's one: Collin

The four anna looks decidedly dodgey Collin. The bottom of the bust should be clear, with dots of blue, yours seems to be washed with colour. I am no expert though. The scan is somewhat fuzzy also. |

spock, I can only pay attention to about half of your thoughts, at best. ( ) Here is a pair of official Eds and another, that proves that two 'eds are not always better than one: C. |

I've got a few to add, nothing as nice as what you guys have. I just inherited these last week. Just thought I'd try to join in on the conversation. And since I have very little knowledge to add at the moment...looks like I"m speaking through pictures. ;-) Sorry if the files are a bit large. |

Oh yeah, another few thousand or so if I had to guess. Still sorting through it all. Everything is pre-1900. Cool stuff. |

3 nice part "squared circle" cancellations. The pen scribed crosses are "theft prevention" marked,
I like the lozenge "diamond" cancel of 1865
If you can supply a close up, I would appreciate that.

Some QV theft prevention covers for Rodney, two at least to the same recipient in Calcutta. All addressed in Urdu/Persian, showing that it wasn't only the Europeans who were worried about the servants stealing the stamps: both with RMS (railway sorting) killers, and Let me know if you'd like them, Rodney. They're no use to me. |

They are magnificent Tony, I think you would be better off keeping them yourself. ..but if you have absolutely have to be rid of them I am patiently awaiting another India specialist as yourself that specialises in cancellations to join the group. This is the big untold story of India since you have highlighted the primitives. I saw a killer recently with a barred "O" and would love to know the genesis of those. I really need "Billigs" but one dosn't see them often for sale. |
