Strange Cilicie (Cilicia) Overprints

Rod - hello. Just noticed your 7 July post. What's the basic stamp (i.e pre-overprint), please? I came across a couple of these recently.

Just so you know, just in case you think I know off hand, and have instant recall......not a bit of it.

I went looking in Saudia Arabia first

I found it, along with my memory, as a Turkish Fiscal, for sealing cigarettes
I'll do some more research and post back if / when I find it.

Update.
I remember now, I had that stamp with a triangle Pmk / Opt

Our dear friend Nigel advised us it was use in Arabia ?
Now I've forgotten that.

The underlying stamp is a Turkish cigarette revenue stamp from 1916. Has 2 overprint variations - one for use in Adana (40 para surcharge) & another increasing value to 16 piastres from the original 5 paras. The value given for the basic stamp is 4 euros. The adana surcharge is 100 euro & the 16 pi is 50 euro.

Thank you, gentlemen. My guess had been a Hejaz revenue, as it had some design similarities with the first independent issues there. Did you need an unoverprinted version, Rod? I have a couple of spares.

It's in the "Rod box", sport. Will wend its way to you when I've assembled enough stuff. Very kind - I'm less interested in Turkey than in Mesopotamia, Greater Syria and the Hejaz, although not expert in any!
