In 1933-4 there was no scheduled air service to Antarctica for covers, they were held for transportation by ship. Aircraft were flying on the ice but there was no Little America-Christchurch type of airmail service. Ordinary mail and "Operation High Jump" philatelic mail obviously moved faster once military mail service was instituted in Antarctica.
One of these Byrd Expedition RPPC's was included in a bundle of postcards I purchased recently, I'm so glad to have found this forum. Exactly the info I was hoping to find!
