On September 28, Siegel Auction Galleries will offer the Vaquero Collection of Errors, Freaks and Oddities. This fascinating collection starts with rare early double impressions and printed on both sides, and also includes vignette shifts, perf freaks, color shifts, offsets, color omitted and other production varieties. The collection also includes some outstanding inverts.

This was a email released to all members of the EFO Collector's Club by the EFOCC.

I looked through the sale when it was posted and there are some real EFO rarities in it especially from the Classic era. Not my bag but cool to look at, nonetheless.

That is why I started the thread here, it is by far more significant to the topic of EFO rather than just another auction entry in the sales discussion area.

This auction could leave so blood on the floor for some EFO specialists. One saving grace for the pocket book is it does not have the most expensive US EFO the doubled Z-grill 85A.

Well, the Kelleher Greenwood sale today of imperforate error coils was strong. Some passed lots but most hit estimate and some really took off.

First Lot, 501, an 11Ae:

This, lot 524, reportedly was used for Doc's locomotive in Back to the Future III, it depicts the instant time travel is occurring with the front already in the new time.

When you really are just interested in well centered plate numbers, lot 574:

While the push to change from gasoline to electric fuels seems quite difficult, the move to shock absorbers required less government push, lot 638:

If you don't collect "one cent errors" then you need to get them like this to prove the value, otherwise the black lacking value is, by default, considered as 1 cent missing, the five cent is the key to the set of the five known value missing denominations, lot 687:

Not to leave out the revenue guys, but here is the easy one, lot 694, now find the example of R228 with DOT and foldover:

Edit: No, I did not include the 1869 or 1901 inverts in the sale as most folks know what those look like.

Kelleher caught me off guard. Cost me more than I anticipated, but could not pass up some 1x chances.

The Siegel sale has some interesting items, but shifts are hard to value the way they do. Wonder how many passed through Schiff's connection...

I bought 2 lots from the Greenwood sale today. He sold off most it privately before sending it to Kelleher and I was able to be one of the buyers then too. I saw the entire collection before it was broken up. None better.

I thought it interesting that in today's sale, only 3 lots in the entire sale had certs. That is very unusual for a high powered sale.

eyeonewall, thats very cool! Generally speaking was there anything noteworthy, outside of the error coils or that was his primary focus? I can't imagine how much the Kelleher lots cost to obtain. Truly had to be a passion with that breadth. I think based on the vibrancy of the sale, people must collect these in a lot of ways, and it helped fill a lot of holes. People like the plate #s, the sizes, the transportation, the error factor.
Truly a fun one.

I am missing one key that wasn't in this sale (of course).

I would imagine certs were absent based on the modern material being otherwise tagged. But I agree, but would think if you had blind perfs in an otherwise imperf you could return it. Did anything to you srand out as being suspect? Plenty of other sales they have, were, but this one I didn't see anything glaring.

I didn't see anything wrong, I just thought it unusual.
