Don:
I collect postal counterfeits and have some from as far back as 1894 including the 2¢ triangle type I and the 1¢ postal card. US counterfeiting goes back a little further into the 1860s (the R3c which I have and the $3 Manifest imperforate which I sold). I used to collect all US postal counterfeits, but now stop with 1990.

Perhaps Scott will just issue a separate volume for forgeries. Sure will be enough of them.

They do. That is the topic of this thread.

So is anyone aware of China receiving counterfeit stamps? I'm getting old and crotchety - maybe we should return the favor?

Already happening! Well, for the 19th century issues, at least

At the extreme risk of derailing this thread with current events - looks like the DOJ is indicting and sanctioning Chinese actors related to fentanyl trafficking. Counterfeit stamps are further down the priority list, no doubt, but maybe they're next?

While I totally agree that the current flood of Chinese counterfeits is egregious, having them listed is not causing people to collect them. Some would do so anyway and if necessary would create a catalog as well. There is plenty of precedent for this. It might create a larger market than would have happened otherwise. Let's face it, China is not creating them for collectors anyway, so it's not like a hundred collectors will actually change anything. A thousand wouldn't.
