Hi all, I'm new to stamp collecting, and very bad with computers so please bear with me if I drop a clanger. I collect world small islands at the moment but will probably have to be more selective in the future....or get a bank loan as it's become an obsession already.

Thankyou Peter, don and mr desert, I will post something of my collection later, when I find where to post it and practice putting on pictures. I'm probably not going to be an avid poster as it gets in the way of the hobby/obsession. |

 Ruthy, Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ |

Welcome, Ruthy - there are a LOT of islands out there so try not to get too overwhelmed. Consider being selective to start until you really know what you like best. Good luck and have fun! |

Hi Ruthy
I see elsewhere that you are thinking of getting a catalogue and are interested in older stamps. I have recently bought a more up to date copy of the Scott Specialised catalogue 1840 - 1940. The copy I had was 2005 and was my go to catalogue for ten years. I picked it up at a good price with very low shipping and I think it is one of my best buys!
There's a lot of detailed information and it covers the whole world in one volume. Most of the illustrations are in colour which I find very helpful in ID-ing the stamps. Of course the SG or Scott world catalogues are much more up to date but are now in many volumes and provide much less detailed information. The Stanley Gibbons for example doesn't distinguish between different perforations or watermarks
Some people find Scott catalogues annoying because they separate out sections for Airs, Officials, Postage Dues and charity stamps. And truthfully it is a bit of a pain to have to flick back and forth in the catalogue. I think this is a trade off I'm happy to make for the depth of information and convenience of having the whole world in one volume
It is an ex-library copy with library markings, and it doesn't look brand new, the corners of the boards are a bit dubbed over but internally it is in very good used condition. If you would like it I'm happy to send it to you for the cost of the postage. This will be quite a bit as it's a heavy volume, weighing in at about 2Kg#8232;#8232;
Email me and let me know if you want it, best wishes, Crispin |

Welcome Ruthy! This is a great place to find information or ask for it if it is not found here. Enjoy your new obsession! |
