I mentioned in another thread the importance of sharing stories, experiences, and knowledge. Given our older demographic, this issue seems to loom even larger than for other hobbies. Towards this end, I would like to start a new community project here in SCF, a sort of 'crowd source' effort where we all can contribute to a common objective. The common objective is to assist in developing a set of questions to be asked during interviews of notable philatelic personalities.

Having a well-developed compilation of questions would help remove one of the obstacles with facilitating this worthwhile effort. So the idea is that we will use this thread to solicit and record questions that we think would be good interview questions. This should be leading questions (i.e. not yes/no questions) that encourage the person to share their experiences.

If folks are willing to help by offering suggested questions to be added to this list, I'll make this thread 'sticky' and compile a downloadable PDF of the question so anyone can use them at any time in the future.

What are your primary resources for philatelic research information?

Where do you see the hobby in 5, 10, 20 years?

What still excites you about the hobby?

What are your thoughts on online marketplaces such as ebay, Hip Stamp, Delcampe etc.?

Who do you most admire in the philatelic world and why?

Have you taken steps to pass on the knowledge that you have acquired?

What have been your best and worst philatelic experiences?

What is your advice to a collector just starting out?

Do you have any recommendations for keeping the hobby interesting and fresh?

If you could do something over again, what would it be? Any regrets? Pitfalls to avoid?

Do you see interacting with other philatelists (forums, clubs etc.) as important in order to grow in the hobby?

What are your thoughts on philately as an investment?

What changes have you seen since you started out that strike you as positive? Negative?

Any thoughts on attracting and retaining a younger demographic to the hobby?

What is the most important thing the hobby has brought to your life?

Honestly, I would be more interested in a list of questions for younger generations of collectors. We might learn how we can help them and keep the hobby alive.

NSK,
The context of the thread, and this effort, is trying to capture the decades of experiences and knowledge of those in our hobby before they are lost forever.

A survey of younger collectors no doubt has merit, but I think is a separate topic.
