I have to go to the heavy hitters on this..perhaps Warrehouse or Tony Vella..i know what the initials M.A., M.G.,M.H.,M.I.,M.J.I.,M.M.,M.O.P. and M.R.C. stand for...but I have a couple that look to me like M.I.I. ! theres nothing in the scott catalog like M.I.I. I thought it might be M.J.I. but its not..i would show a scan but its not that clear...I KNOW someone has the answer !!

AFAIK there are only 8 variants in the departmentals.
May be a MI double print, or a misprinted MJI ?

Hi Phil.
Here is an M.J.I. that I have manipulated into an M.I.I. with a "pastel brush" cloning filter.
I have seen misprinted Js before but I have never read any literature about them. In the Ministerio de Religión y Cultura issues I have seen the R. completely omitted but I have never seen any literature in reference to that either.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the compliment, PhilB!

I'd agree with Tony Vella, that this is a broken 'J'.

Have these optd issues been forged at all?

I have only seen reference to the serifed opts,
I notice Tony's and some of mine do not have serifs.

Hi Rod.
As you can see from this Scott intro to the Ministerials, both serif and non-serif were issued officially.
I would be interested to know what other catalogues have to say.
Hope this helps.

Rod, I kind of doubt they were forged..anything is possible but these are stamps that sell for 10 cents ! They exist in multitudes..but they are a fun thing !!

Thanks gentlemen, understood.
depending how deep you want to go with Argentina,
there is an extensive treatment of papers and watermarks here
with some attention to departmentals.
In case it may be of interest.

Hey Guys. Good stuff. Thanks for showing. The Departmentals are great fun as well as a challenge. I have one that 'overprinted' on a typewriter which I think was a nice find even if no one else gets excited by it.
