I have narrowed this stamp down to one of two varieties with the only difference being when they were issued and color. Can anyone narrow it down to either #97, dark brown, issued in 1936 or #161, brown, issued in 1944. My screen shows a little more red tint than the actual stamp does. Thanks

Based on the postmark, I'd vote for the earlier issue. Looks to me like it was canceled in year 6, which corresponds to 1939. 1944 would be year 11, so even if that number isn't a "6" it certainly isn't an "11."

Happy to be corrected by someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

Nevertheless, my 2d.
