I love the cancel on the 1st one. I suspect the color of the 2nd is not natural. |

Second one is sulphurized, it can be brought back with hydrogen peroxide. The cancel on the first is very nice, and makes it both more interesting and more valuable. Modest, but certainly adds value. |

Are you sure it is not so far gone to be revived? or that the peroxide won't affect the ms cancel? |

BigD - the ones you have 100s of are common, so minimal value unless some have a desirable cancel or are on something interesting. |

The two cent tax on checks was in force from 1862 to 1883, so unless there is some additional reason (fancy cancel, autograph, collectible user, fine illustration, etc.), most checks are going to fall into the "fairly to very common" categories. That does not in any way preclude them from being collectible, it just makes them easily affordable. |
