I've searched this stamp online and come up with mixed results. Any intel concerning its value and how to characterize it would be appreciated. Can't find it in the Scott catalogue under China, perhaps one of the ports?

In Scott-land, it's Sc15 (if genuine).

Am still not finding a listing for the Hangkow stamp in the Scott catalog (1995 multi-volume paperback set). Have looked under China, (also Republic of and People's Republic); can't find a heading for Treaty Ports, Hangkow or any "Sc" listing. If you'll forgive a newbie question, it would also be helpful to know what "Michel and SG" signify, along with how one might determine if this particular stamp is "genuine" or not. Thank-you!

The Treaty Ports were added to the Classic Specialized catalogue in the last 15-20 years, give or take.

Michel is the worldwide catalogue based out of Germany, and SG is Stanley Gibbons, the worldwide catalogue based out of the UK.

it would also be helpful to know what "Michel and SG" signify,

Catalog publishers:
Sc: Scott (based in USA)
Mi: Michel (based in Germany)
Yt: Yvert & Tellier (based in France)
SG: Stanley Gibbons (based in UK)

Those all offer multi-volume worldwide catalogs in addition to great specialized catalogs of their countries of origin.

Other catalogs include Sakura (Japanese stamps), Unitrade (Canada), POFIS (Czech), Zagorsky (Russia), AFA (Denmark), Edifil (Spain), FACIT (Sweden and Nordic), LAPE (Finland), etc.

Thanks to all who have responded. In my Scott Catalog, #15 (under "China") is an 1885 imperial dragon, not the Hangkow stamp. Which must mean it's listed under a different heading, ie "Treaty Ports". However, I'm not finding Treaty Ports in the catalog. On the other hand, I have trouble locating the half-and-half in my refrigerator, only to be told by my wife that it's staring me right in the face.

If, as Cjd says, the listings were added to the Specialised catalogue relatively recently, they presumably don't appear at all in your older A-Z.

The Treaty Ports are definitely not in a 1995 multi-volume set.

I've placed the specialized catalog on my Xmas wish list. In the meantime, I'd be grateful to know what value, if any, Scott places on SC15 in China Treaty Ports. Thank-you!!

The listing in the Scott Classics is/was under Shanghai, as these Local Posts were loosely associated with the Shanghai Local Post. Most are not uncommon with print runs of 10s of thousands (way more than could be used), but some are quite scarce, so they are a challenging area to collect to completion. Also this treaty port was frequently transcribed as Hankow
