I was organizing some stamps and I noticed what I think is a weird color variation on a 6 cent columbus. I understand that the most drastic is supposed to be a "red violet". However what I am seeing I would describe as "blue". Which is very drastic compared to its normal purple color.

I looked at it under a microscope and as far as I can tell its the same paper and genuine but im not much of an expert.

What is going on here>?

I don't think it's a changeling, this stamp does come in a couple of shades. I think that you have both purple and dull purple here.

I have the color varieties in my collection, the left is the purple stamp, the right is the red violet color variety.

I have seen a range of colors on the 6c (which does not prove all of them are natural).

I think Don is right about a color changeling. If you look at the purple color changeling's, it's an exact match to the blue.

Just another complexity trying to identify and organize stamps lol. Now I have to be aware of color changes due to age and their environmental or chemical exposure.
