I've had these and a few other like it for 20 years but never knew much about them. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Most are British stamps used as proof of duties paid. They could be attached to receipts or cheques (stamp duty), etc.

British postage stamps were valid as revenue stamps. Often, they are inscribed 'postage and revenue.' The revenue use lowers their value as used stamp. Keeping them on the documents is preferable.

Top image, top left corner of the document. Could we get a better picture of the red 1d KGV Downey head? I initially assumed it was a commercial overprint, but in enlarging it as far as I could, it appears to have handwriting instead of, or in addition to, an overprint?

If you can't easily get a better picture, at least tell us what's on the face of the stamp, please.

I think we've had some file naming issues playing with this thread. The old images went away.

We're professionals, so, like Spinal Tap finding no pimentos in their olives, we'll persevere.

The London County overprint is a commercial overprint. These are collected, as you might expect, and the Brits have a society.

I've never attempted to value mine, but I definitely keep them. Someone down the line can attempt to value them. Thanks for sharing.

As Cjd implies, images showing British cheques and receipts have disappeared from the OP.

The commercial overprint is for the London County and Westminster Bank Limited (1909-1923). Nowadays, it is NatWest.

The Commercial Overprint Society of Great Britain focuses on these type of overprints applied to keep staff from stealing stamps. The GPO would not buy back stamps that had a perfin or overprint. Here is their website
https://cosgb.blogspot.com/
It has not been updated since 2014.

Some information also is available on the website of the GB Overprint Society: https://www.gbos.org.uk//index.php/...t_Revenues/2

Sorry about the files. I keep forgetting that I need to rename them uniquely when I scan new files. I have a habit of deleting old files and when I rescan, the old designation is used and thus this vanishing act.
