Back on New Year's Eve 24 years ago, I had special envelopes made up with dual cancellations from the Benjamin Franklin post office on Market Street here in Philadelphia on December 31, 1999 and from the only post office open on New Year's Day of the new millennium, January 1, 2000, at the post office at 29th and Market Streets.

Of course, the first day of the new millennium was 1 January 2001.

I donated one of these envelopes to our City museum years ago.

Nice cover.
I like the juxtaposition of the use of the US flag stamp and the Benjamin Franklin post office cachet since this Post Office is unique in that it is the only United States Post Office which does not fly the US flag (since it was established before there was a US flag).

Morning all,

Don, NYC and other POs were also established before our country existed. Why is Phila the "only one"? Happy new year to all as we charge into the future.

The B. Free Franklin Post Office is still in the same building where Franklin served as postmaster - the other post offices were established prior to 1776 but I think the Franklin PO is the only one still in the same building (no idea if it has been open continuously)
