Hey guys, just joined recently and got back into collecting stamps again.

I remember I used to get Linns Stamp News in the mail and loved reading through the newspaper when it was actually around 100 pages.

I would like to buy a lot/collection of old Linns Stamp Newspapers (pre 2007). Does anyone know where the best place to look is? ebay doesn't really have much

Gosh, I once had room to keep the ones I thought most interesting, but they went by the wayside when we downsized. Have you checked to see if a library might have stored the info on their systems?

You could try putting an ad in Linns. They've likely got a few likeminded folks.

Would APS have copies in their library? Or the Library of Congress? Maybe digitalized and could sell a copy.

Do you actually need paper copies? If not, Linn's has (or at least did have) an archive of older issues. Not sure how far back it goes though. Early 2000s might be a bit of a reach.

Linn's archive goes back to Jan 2008. So it seems like the OP already knew that.

Though, frankly, the archive is near useless. You can only do a search of one issue at a time, not a global search of all issues.

There are people and institutions who save nearly anything you can imagine from National Geographics to daily newspapers to scholarly journals to old car magazines. And ebay is the place a lot of it gets dumped to be sold to some other person who'll hang onto it for awhile. I'd try them over some time. If there's nothing today, maybe in a few weeks it will appear.

Linn's or the APS Library many know where microfilm may exist. The APS may have them films themselves.

As to Amos Press they plan to eventually have more editions digitized. As note they are from 2008 forward and fully accessible to those with a current digital subscription. My old hard-copy Linn's are currently being used for cage bottom liners by the significant other but those do not pre-date 2008.

What do you want to search for? Linn's content can be separated in several broad categories:

  • Editorial Comment and Letters

  • Reports on the Postal Service

  • Auctions - future and results

  • Advertisments and Classified Ads

  • Regular Features by staff

  • Regular columns by outside writers/columnists. Think John Hotchner, Ken Lawrence, Richard Graham, Tony Wawrukiewicz, Matthew Healey, etc.

What information is useful or of interest to you after 1, 5, 10, 20 years?

The APRL has virtually all back issues of Linn's. Many in paper format

And more in microfilm:

Back issues of Linn's from 1928 thought 1961 are available in the Internet Archive. I can't put my hands on the link, but I recall it was in another thread within the past year.

Note: The Internet Archive takes website content without asking and have also broken copyright laws. (Hachette Book Group, Inc. v. Internet Archive, No. 20-cv-4160 (JGK), 2023 WL 2623787 (S.D.N.Y. 2023). They are appealing using donated money from people who support their practices.

Okay, Linn's has several broad categories, but you cannot find a specific article using Linn's archive site without going through each issue individually. I can use the Philatelic Union Catalog (which I make regular use of) to find an article and then go back to the Linn's site to see the article in that issue. But why is it not built in? If I wanted a specific article by, say, Ken Lawrence, how would I find it using only the Linn's site?

For my research I sometimes go back more than 100 years, not just 1, 2, 5 or 10 years.

Without the ability to search, any archive is useless. It's just data, not information.

The intent is I want to read the original newspaper, not an online copy. As per my original post...

Welcome to the forum StampsPinz Older Linns are out there, but location location location is the key. You could try contacting the Northern Philatelic Library https://norps.org/ and see what they say. They probably have extras but shipping them to Canada wouldn't be cheap! I've brought boxes of them to my stamp show I put on once a year in October in Roseville, MN and with few/no takers may get recycled.
