At first, I thought this would be a strike from Gare Saint-Charles, which is the train station near the port of Marseilles, where I suppose most of the mail arriving at the port would have been processed.

However, what can be seen of the letters preceding "CHARLES" does not fit this - it looks like "LLU" to me.

Does anyone know?

Also, note that the year "13" is inverted!

Without doing any research to see if there is actually a match, I'd wonder about a top ring of Gare de Marseille St Charles (with a superscript t in St) and a bottom ring of Bouches-du-Rhône.

Did I mention it was a guess? Might be something for further research?

It's an interesting proposal, but I can't them leaving the final "E" off "MARSEILLES."

I'm going through my old British definitives at the moment and finding all kinds of quirky old postmarks. This was among the least expected.

It's not MARSEILLES. If I'm right, it's going to be MARSEILLE.

My theory is that the "S" above the second "2" in 22 is for the "St". How can you be sure that the last character before the "S" is an L and not an E? Aren't all the parts of an E that would be visible, actually visible?

Again, not saying it is. Just saying that it seems to fit.
