Wow! That looks like a great start of a fine hobby. It is impossible to tell much about this from your pictures, but this can give you lots of pleasure!

Depends on what you want to do with them. Value? Not so much. But a great start to the collecting hobby. There are a couple of interesting items in there, but value for those are probably $2-5 dollars at most.

Stick around ... you might find it fun here.

Thank you both for your reply! I would love for this to be a hobby that my daughter and I can work on together. Do you have any resources you'd recommend to help us start learning?

I see that you are in the Chicago area. If you go to www.stamps.org you can find information on stamp clubs in your area. A hands-on approach to your collection is priceless, and members of stamp clubs will usually be more than happy to assist!

malonec212 and daughter,

The real value in your beginnings to a stamp collection is in the memories you will make as you share your interests with your daughter. Their real value will be in future years when she shares her memories of working with you on them with her children.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ
