Why would anyone list 600 or more #1036's (the $.04 Lincoln)? probably one of the most
used stamps ever.

First of all there's a cover for every pot. Second of all sellers lose nothing by listing. Theoretically I'd prefer to browse a store with 1000 items than one with 10 items

It's a problem because the the dealers got 1000-2000 of these common stamps and when I'm looking for PNCs I have to wade through them all to find them.

I too like a better selection but not 800 of the same thing.

Each collector may seek some different specialty aspect among the large number of similar listings. A different needle in the haystack, so to speak. You may actually find out the world does not revolve around you or your interests. Nor around mine. And it takes considerable sifting to find the wheat among the chaff of multiple quantities, not to mention poorly listed and misdescribed lots. If I don't like the listings on a given site, I can always shop elsewhere.

Using stamps in a non-philatelic way can be a 'gateway' to generating interest in our hobby; so having those 'billions' in the marketplace can be a positive thing.

I visit the HipStamp about twice a year. It has its place in the hobby. I have several "fun" collections. One of them is "what to do with all those used Prexies?" After picking out several nice used sets, I played around with cancel types just for fun. Here is the page of mute ovals. It lacked only the 1.5 cent Martha Washington.

Looking for quantity, I went to HipStamp this morning.to find a mute oval on Scott 805, and was happy to find over 1100 "hits" to look through. At 96 offerings per page, it did not take long to sift through them. I was glad the haystack was that large since there was only ONE stamp among the listings. It was priced at 10 cents plus shipping, which meant I looked for some other interesting cancels from the same slller to get the shipping cost per stamp down to about a dime each.

It should be fun to hear about others' imaginative "fun collections."

Sorry but you are giving ebay too much credit. One of their search categories is color. Who does a search for blue?

One of my "fun" collections is a 365-day calendar with socked-on-the-nose cancels on only blue 3-cent stamps. Here is February,

I have other calendar collections in red, green, purple, pink, and yellow, in different levels of completeness...

Too much time on my hands and too many nice stamps to just throw away in a kiloware lot.

I am able to find many more additions to my collections at 5 to 10 cents each on Hip Stamp versus ebay that has like a minimum 30 cent per item listing fee.
