I spend a long time thinking, researching, and scoping when I'm looking into a new collecting area. While I have a (smallish) KGVI Commonwealth collection, I've specifically avoided the Malaya/SE Asia Japanese Occupation issue until now. Anyone have any advice? Pitfalls, highlights, things to look out for, unique challenges?

I'd see what resources I had or could put my hands on.

Off the top of my head, I'd have Five Reigns, Robson Lowe, and a smattering of GEOSIX. If I was serious, I'd join the KGVI Collectors' Society and grab the rest of the applicable copies of GEOSIX.

I just have an accumulation and not a true collection, so I can't be specific.

Aside from having a Stanley GIbbons 1840-1970 catalog, I would also recommend finding a copy of the Commonwealth Catalog. I think the last edition was the 19th, issued in 2008.

The SG 1840-1970 I have; is there anything specific to Occupation issues to look out for, either resources or hazards? I'll look for that Murray Payne catalog.

I've never really looked at this area, but I bet there's a LOT of forgeries.
