Hi Folks,

I am trying to find out where exactly the French Indochina album pages are in the Scott specialty series. I called Amos Advantage and they told me they were in French Offices Abroad album.

So I bought these album pages, and lo and behold Indochina is not there.

Very frustrating, as I called to get it right. I don't know what is going on at Amos/Scott but they are also out of stock on many many items.

Any help on what album from Scott that Indochina may be in in the specialty series is appreciated, and also what Scott catalogue would have French Indochina, F Or I.

Many Thanks

George

I do not know how these albums work. However, have you looked at where you would expect 'Indo China,' i.e., whithout the 'French?'

The Amos website also says this album includes French Indo-China, although I think it might actually be saying offices in Indo-China? 40 pages doesn't seem like it would be enough to cover all of Indo-China in addition to everything else. Steiner is 36 pages just for Indo-China although includes some after 1941.

Quote:
Scott Specialty Series Album Pages: French Offices Abroad 1885-1941 (40 Pages). Contains spaces for French Offices Abroad in China, Crete, Egypt, the Turkish Empire, French Indo China and Zanzibar.

I do have an older and/or Frankenstein version of this album which includes the French Offices pages as well as Guadaloupe, Mayotte and some others but not Indo-China. It doesn't seem there is currently a Scott Specialized for just Indo-China maybe have to go with Steiner?

"Offices abroad" rather an odd heading. Indo-China is ordinarily identified as a colony, whereas the French offices in China or the French Indo-Chinese offices in China could be characterised as "offices abroad".

George,

If you won't find the Indochina album pages you need, I can offer you my album pages I created for all issues of years 1889-1949. I sell it as a PDF file so you can print it in your own printer.

The album has three versions: color images, B&W images and frames without images.

Here are two sample pages with color images (the pages are JPEG files, hence are not sharp, but the PDF file, which I can't upload here, is very sharp and clear.

Here are two B&W sample pages:

Here are two pages with real stamps from my personal album:

French Indo-China was a French colony, not an "office" which is a much more minor thing that does not assume ownership as a colony does. As a French colony, it lasted from 1889-1945 (or 1946) philatelically but to 1954 politically when the French were finally defeated by the local people and essentially kicked out.
As for album pages, Scott publishes a "French Colonies, 1859-1956" set of pages which, as you can see in the attached, is described as having pages for French colonies up to the 1950s. That would no doubt include French Indochina. Scott separates "French Offices" into a separate set of pages. And if you look at pages for "France," you will see Scott also lists "French Africa" pages there. Not sure why since those were also clearly French "colonies" and not some other thing. They certainly weren't part of France itself. Although today France likes to pretend all its remaining far-flung colonies are actually "France," meaning you are still in France when you are in one of them and are a French citizen if you live in one of them. It's a bit strange since clearly you are not in "France" at all as most people define it. I think you may just have been sent the wrong pages, and that may explain the mix-up.

My main albums are the Scott French Africa specialty albums.

I don't see Indo China listed on that page for French Colonies and possessions.

I did call them on the phone, to find out before I ordered. I can't get a straight answer from them, although they are nice people.
I don't know what is going on over there.
