*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Question, I saw a post where someone was using software to inventory there collection.
Currently I have been just using excel. I use the web to help identify different stamps and varieties.
But does anyone know if there is a good pc software that would help identify and organize

I use Liberty Street's StampManage to inventory but use online sites to help do quicker searches. |

For my collection, I use the NotePad feature. It's a super simple little thing, no extra features and the program and the files load super quickly.
I have one file for each country I collect. When I add new stamps, I add the Scott numbers to my Notepad file as I add the stamps to the album.
I just have it listed with one number per line; hit "enter" after each number. I separate them by each 100 interval so it breaks up the long lists, and I can add notes about the stamp (NH, any damage, as a souvenir sheet, etc.) right next to the number.
Not very efficient, I guess, but if I'm trading with someone on a country or countries, I can send these lists over email. They're small text files, and everyone already has NotePad on their computers.
I always keep the assorted countries I'm working on live on my computer, and I can "tab" between them when I switch countries. If I need to use a country not open, it literally takes one second to open it.
Oh, and it's FREE. It comes with the computer. And it's super easy to share it. All of mine have a header at the top with what it is (country, etc.) and then a guide (any stamp NOT LISTED, I need), as well as the DATE I last updated it (in case someone has an old file from long ago). Of course, my name and contact info (address, email) are at the top too :-}
Take a look. See if this could work for you :-}

I think it's best to make your own list in Excel; I use as column headings Scott #, Illustration #, Year, Description, Denomination, Color, Grade, Quantity, Value, and Location (Scott catalog, Harris, etc.). |
