I was looking through a group of covers with Scott 5756, and find a difference, I think.

The peak/valley counts are the same, but ...
Specifically note the die cuts on the left stamp have a very shallow, gentle sine wave appearance.
And on the right stamp, steeper/deeper cuts and rounded peaks/valleys.
Has this been noted anywhere?
Is it catalog-listed?
Could one be a counterfeit?

(The scan above is contrast-enhanced to better show the perforations against the white envelope.)
Both are on a glossy-finish paper with no apparent difference.
Both are equally "dead" under both long-wave and short-wave UV.
Both are on covers from the same charity organization, and overall I have several of both types.

And for the record, here is 5756A, with the wider 2023 year date.

John, I believe PNC3 has reported a second printing of these. The plate number has changed from a "1" to a "2"

I will try to see if this is correct
Well. there is two versions, but I believe I have the plate number wrong!

Peter

John,

These die cut differences are occasionally reported in Coil Line, the monthly journal of PNC3, by editor Ron Blanks. The December 2023 issue reported finding the two different types on the Patriotic Block stamps.

The top two stamps in your scan are Scott 5756 with the narrow spaced date, as you noted, while the bottom stamp is from the reprint, Scott 5756A, with the wide spaced date. The former are from plate B111 and the latter from plate B222.

The two different die cuts have been found on several large roll coil issues.

Thanks Peter and philatomic.
It sounds like I am seeing the same thing as reported in the PNC3 journal..
Will it be enough different to become Scott-listed?

John Becker: If I read Philatomic's post correctly, perhaps it already has ... 5756 & 5756A.
Added: Once again, you are correct. My apologies ... I didn't read your post carefully enough.

JJLebbert,
If you read my post carefully, there are 2 diecut varieties of 5756 and 1 of 5756A, a total of 3 stamps as I show in my original post.

These two subtle die cut varieties are known on issues as far back as the Ferns from 2015. None have received Scott catalog recognition.

They only occur on stamps printed by BCA. The aforementioned Ferns have plate numbers beginning with S, but were printed by BCA for Sennett Security Products under contract.

I would like to correspond with John Becker further, but SCF will not let me (says I'm a new member although posting for over 2 years now?). If John can private-message me, that would be great.

StampsOnMail,
Until you get to 50 posts, I cannot successfully send you messages, nor can you send me messages. Keep posting.

Add: I really don't collect these, but was sorting through a recently-acquired shoebox of modern mail and put the coils in a stack and subsequently took a quick look for plate numbers (none). The perf difference caught my eye and I looked further into Scott and ebay without finding any additional information, thus the thread here.

John, thanks very much for reply. I hadn't seen threshold posting count before I repeated my request over on the 8.4c Piano (precancel) thread; my apologies. (At least my count is now 2 more!)
