In addition to stamps, I am a coin collector and I also participate here in other forums about numismatics. I say this because in one of the best forums I participate in, very similar to this one, there is a specific section for the grading of coins, people post photos of their coins and who wants to grade them...obviously it is not a precise system but rather a reference one, and very useful for its indicative pedagogical nature about of the philatelic beauty...It's just an idea.

There, already, are many posts that ask for valuation. It would be great if those would move to such a 'Theatre.'

Grading of stamps is a purely American passtime. Most stamp catalogues use a rule of thumb where 'fine' is the standard for the listed price and 'very fine' and 'superb' command a premium. Edifil will show a separate price for well-centered (lujo) stamps.

There is no uniform terminology. It is not that fine is catalogue standard, but the catalogue standard is fine.

If a stamp simply has only popped up folded in two, with scissor indents and a moustache drawn on the madonna, that may be the standard,
